Welcome to our website! You've found the home of East-Central Illinois' fainting goat farm. Indian Creek Fainters is located on the banks of the Indian Creek  near Lerna, Illinois in Coles County. We are approximately 5 miles Northwest of Illinois' historic Lincoln Log Cabin.

Here at Indian Creek Fainters, we raise myotonic (fainting) goats and have one other lamancha doe who is our farm mascot. All of our fainting goats are registered with the Myotonic Goat Registry (M.G.R.) and some are double registered with the International Fainting Goat Association (I.F.G.A.) as well. It is our belief that the M.G.R. serves as a much needed tracking tool to help provide a list of each myotonic or fainting goat's heritage.

Myotonic or fainting goats, also called stiff legged goats, scare goats, nervous goats, or wooden legged goats, were first documented in the 1880's in Marshall County, Tennessee. Myotonic or fainting goats, are a unique breed in that their characteristics are hereditary and listed as a rare breed with the American Conservatory List. Myotonia is the condition which causes these goats to appear to faint, however, they do not actually faint. They are aware of their surroundings and are in no pain,, they do not have any seizure type activity associated with their brains. Rather, when startled or excited their muscles contract or stiffen due to a process with the release of calcium in the tissues. They may stiffen and then fall over, appearing to "faint,"  actually adding to their muscle mass and potential as meat goats. In addition,, myotonics also produce milk which can be utilized in many ways. Most of all, we feel our fainters are friendly and more easily maintained than other goats, making them a wonderful choice for pets, show animals, or just a great addition to a farm. We have found that myotonic or fainting goats to be easier to maintain in that they do not climb and wear down fences as other breeds may and they are also more parasite resistant and adaptable to various climates.

At Indian Creek Fainters, we breed for a wide variety of myotonic or fainting goat characteristics, sure to help you find your perfect new friend. We raise medium to larger sized myotonics as well as smaller mini-fainters. Our goats are horned as well as polled (naturally hornless) and come in a variety of coat colors and lengths from short to long.
